A traditional neighborhood Sicilian restaurant with great staff and waitresses.Food is great and reasonably priced and available wine is simple (red or white are the two no name offerings that are always good). Not pretty but pleasant place for quiet lunch or dinner.

Food is the best! Don't trust that other Sicilian restaurants make food better than them. This place is old school, true Sicilian food. Fresh fish dishes like pasta con sardi, zuppa di mussels, baked clams, polpo insalata, calamari fritti and linguine con vongole. Best rice balls and panelle. Escarole, string beans, caponata are just some of the specialties of authentic southern Italian cooking. The tripe is my favorite dish there. My fiancé loves the pasta con ricci, he says it reminds him of Sicily. If lasagna and eggplant parmigiana are your favs, Joe's won't disappoint.

Look last time there was in the early 80s, I lived in Brooklyn, have not been able to get back to Avenue U since. since. REALLY authentic old school Sicilian food. The Arancina (fried rice ball.s) that are getting trendy by high end Italian restaurants were kept alive for DECADES in obscurity at Brooklyn joints like this one. I had vestadda there, kind of like fried pancreas sandwich, then I had the EXACT same in Palermo, it's home (although more authentically LUNG). Really only a few places left in Brooklyn that make it..

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Joe's of Avenue U, and it was a truly great experience from start to finish! The panelle special was awesome. freshly made and with great flavor. For dinner I had baccalaru in bianco. The flavors were rich and expertly balanced, leaving me wanting more after every bite. But what really made my experience stand out was the incredible service. Our waitress was friendly, and attentive, taking the time to answer all our questions and making sure we had everything we needed. Overall, I was very impressed with Joe's of Avenue U and will definitely return! The food was outstanding, the service was top-notch, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. Enjoy!!

Paid street parking in front. Great place for a nice Sicilian lunch. Pane e panelle and baked clams.

Classic Brooklyn lunch spot. I stopped in for the Panelle Special. It does not disappoint. Also had the rice ball special. I loved it. Great place. Waitress was friendly and the service was fast Next time I want to try the Vastedda

This old school Italian eatery sells a very rare sandwich. Vastedda with ricotta and parmesan cheese. The best sandwich you will ever try. Do yourself a big favor and buy one. At $10 it's a gift to Brooklyn Italians.

I come from Orlando, Fla to visit family and eat at this restaurant. My aunt and uncle use to take me here when I visited Brooklyn. This is the food my mother cooked for our family growing up..it brings back a lot of memories. The food is fabulous and the many times I have come , it has never disappointed me!! This restaurant is definitely one everyone should try when In Brooklyn.

As a boy living in a New Jersey suburb my dad would bring home these funky smelling but delicious sandwiches called Vastedda. I never knew what it was but saw the reaction of all those lucky enough to be there when the sandwiches arrived. As a grown man with above average culinary skills I started researching Sicilian foods and came across Vastedda recipes. Sadly I couldn't get the special cow part needed (cow spleen) so I found Joe's of Avenue U on google. This is an old school must visit joint easily accessible of the Belt Parkway. It's 1960's all the way and the menu is a Sicilian dictionary of deliciousness. The wait staff is excellent and even the prices are good. Get in and try a Vastedda for yourself just don't google it because you probably won't try it.
